Properly Prepare the Surface

The first step is to completely clean the window you want to cover. Use your favorite window cleaner and be sure you treat every part of the glass. Dry the glass thoroughly with a paper towel or a soft cloth. It is important that the window be as clean as possible so that the tinted window covering will adhere to the glass evenly. A small amount of dust or debris can cause the tinting to bubble up, which will cause a distortion in the glass.

Take Your Time

Properly applying tinted window covering takes patience. Measure the window carefully before you cut the tinting to the right size. Carefully align the tinting to the window so that it fits snugly around all of the edges. If you are using a tint that requires water to activate the glue, don’t use too much water at once. You will have a short period of time when you first apply the tinting when you can shift it around a small bit. Once the water has dried, however, the tint will stay firmly where it has been affixed.

The Final Touches

When you have completely covered the window with the tinting film it is time to smooth out any rough patches or bubbles that may have occurred during the process. Use a small, damp rubber squeegee to gently press the tinting from the center to the edges. This should drive the bubbles smoothly toward the sides of the glass where they will be released easily. Using a squeegee to flatten the tinting also makes sure that the adhesive is distributed evenly over the entire window. Trim off any excess that may be on the sides of the glass.
