For this one, prefer a spiral sliced, bone-in ham. The bone adds flavor, and the small gaps between slices allow the juice from the glaze to soak deep into the meat. You'll love it. There's an added bonus, too: You can use the bone and any leftover ham to make a savory bean dish, soup or stew later.

Classic Glazed Ham Recipe

Ingredients

  • Spiral sliced (fully cooked) ham, bone-in
  • 20 whole cloves
  • 1 can pineapple slices (about 20-ounce)
  • 1/4 cup Ginger Ale
  • 1/4 cup Pineapple Juice (from can)
  • 1-1/4 cups light brown sugar
  • 4 tablespoons honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon powdered ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon powdered mustard
  • Toothpicks

Directions

  1. Arrange ham in a large baking pan.
  2. Dot the top with whole cloves by pressing them into the meat up to the flowering buds.
  3. Add pineapple slices in a decorative pattern, and secure them with toothpicks.
  4. In a small bowl, combine the remaining ingredients: ginger ale, pineapple juice, brown sugar, honey and spices.
  5. Stir until the sugar has dissolved.
  6. Pour the mixture over the ham. Be sure to brush it along the sides, too.
  7. Re-heat the ham in a covered pot according to the manufacturer's directions.
  8. Remove the pot lid 20 minutes before the ham is ready to give the glaze an opportunity to reduce and thicken.

Ham is a holiday favorite, and this glazed recipe works well with sweet potatoes, cornbread muffins, green beans, ambrosia salad and roasted carrots.
