This is a simple, inexpensive project to make for adults or children. It is made from recycled items from your house, pieces of nature, peanut butter and some bird food. It is sure to be a hit for both adults and children. The birds in your yard will be delighted and sure to enjoy it for some time.

Step 1: You will need to gather together the following items: • A cardboard milk carton in a quart or half gallon size • A small piece of wood a little larger than the milk carton for base of feeder • Peanut Butter • Twine or wire (old coat hangers work well) • Glue gun and glue sticks • Pen, pencil or marker • Craft knife or scissors • Glass or round object for tracing hole for bird food • Wax paper • Wire Cutters • Craft stick, plastic knife or Popsicle stick • Birdseed • Decorative items such as moss, grass, pine cones, etc.

Step 2: Rinse out the milk carton thoroughly and allow to air dry to ensure a fresh smelling carton.

Step 3: Glue the top of the carton closed (pouring spout).

Step 4: Puncture hole in the middle of the top of the carton to put the wire through.

Step 5: Cut an appropriate size of wire and bend to form a hook or twist to form a loop for hanging.

Step 6: Use the glass or round object for a pattern for hole for entrance of the feeder. Cut out the hole with the craft knife or scissors.

Step 7: Use the craft stick, plastic knife or Popsicle stick to spread the peanut butter on all four sides of the milk carton.

Step 8: Spread the birdseed out on the wax paper. Press the milk carton coated with peanut butter into the birdseed until it is thoroughly covered.

Step 9: Center and glue the bird feeder onto the scrap of wood.

Step 10: Glue decorative moss or grass around the edges of the feeder on the top of the wood base.

Step 11: For different looks on the “roof” you can glue pieces of grass, petals of a pine cone etc to the sloped edges of the milk carton.

Step 12: Fill the bottom of the bird feeder with the birdseed and hang where desired.

This simple project that you can make for just a few dollars makes a decorative bird feeder or bird house and the birds flying around your yard will love the tasty snack. The bird feeder also makes a good gift for nature lovers of all ages.
