Have you ever tried to say just what you were thinking in the shortest way possible? Now, let's imagine that you can do it in 140 characters or less -- and and you can advertise your business or yourself to millions.

That's what Twitter is all about.

But, with millions of people using Twitter, your messages might have been getting lost in the shuffle, meaning that while you might tweet eveyr day, people are going right past your tweets if they're not done correctly.Twitter is a great tool, and everybody should use it for at least some of their marketing efforts. However, it's not the ONLY social marketing tool out there.

In today's rush for immediacy, and to Tweet everybody we can, there's many times you just can't say what you need to say in the confines of 140 characters.

Fact is, while Twitter is generally regarded to a cool tool, is it smart to use it exclusively? Of course not – just like it's not smart to use any one tool exclusively.

So here's some tips for effective tweeting:

1. Use hash tags. Keywords prefixed by a # are the ones that are found. They emphasise words and divide tweets into easily-searchable subjects.

2. Use effective links. It's one thing to say that you're offering coupons on your lawnmowing service, for example, but if you don't include a link, people won't find your lawnmowing coupon and you may as well not have posted your tweet about it.

3. Make it easy for people to retweet you. Don't use your whole 140 characters, so people can send on your tweets and possibly put their own note on top of it.

4. Sometimes, just be funny. You don't always have to push your business. In fact, if you post something funny and it's retweeted, that could lead you to have more followers and potentially more business.

5. Retweet other people's tweets. It's appreciated and if you retweet them, you might get some additional users.
