During today's tough economic times, it makes sense to start making your own items such as creating your own hoodie. A hoodie is basically a sweatshirt with a hood on it. It usually has pockets on the front for the hands, it can be a pull over or a zipper type. They come in all colors, and may even have logos, and other designs created on them. Sylvester Stallone wore a hoodie as he played Rocky during his exercise routines to get ready for the big fights. You may even see people wearing a hoodie, with a jean jacket over the top. Hoodies are plain comfortable, and easy to wear. Here you will learn the basic techniques in creating a hoodie, leaving you room to customize it to fit your personality and creativity. It is assumed that you know how to sew and use a sewing machine.

Step 1: Get a T-shirt that fits you. Lay it out on the fabric you want to create your hoodie out of.

Step 2: Fold the sleeve of the t-shirt in, trace a pattern on the fabric around the t-shirt minus the sleeves, adding 1” to the sides.

Step 3: Cut out the pattern you just made on your fabric. This will be the back of your hoodie.

Step 4: Take the back of the hoodie you just cut out and fold it in half. Lay this on the fabric, trace a pattern around it, adding 1 ½ “ along the straight side. Cut this new pattern out. This will be one of the fronts of your hoodie.

Step 5: Repeat step 4 again. This will be the other half of the front of your hoodie.

Step 6: Now take a section of your fabric and fold it in half to make a sleeve. Place your t-shirt on the fabric and trace the sleeve of your t-shirt on the folded piece of fabric. Add 1/2” to the bottom of the sleeve when you trace the pattern on your fabric. Make the length of the length to whatever length you desire. You could take a measure of your arm to determine the length, make it shorter, or make it longer. The choice is yours since this is your creation.

Step 7: Repeat step 6 for the other sleeve.

Step 8: At this point you should have 5 pieces of your fabric cut for your hoodie. You should have 1 piece for the back, 2 pieces for the front, and 2 pieces for the sleeves.

Step 9: Now sew the two front pieces to the back of the hoodie along the sides and shoulders. You should end up with a vest.

Step 10: Now to make pockets for your hoodie, cut out two square shapes out of the fabric. The size of the squares depends on how big you want the pockets. Once you have the two squares cut out, cut a half out from each square. This half circle will be the openings to your pockets.

Step 11: Now position your pockets on where you want them on your hoodie and sew them onto the front of your hoodie.

Step 12: Now you will sew the sleeves along the bottom so that they are sleeves. Once this is done, you will sew the completed sleeves on the shoulders of your hoodie.

Step 13: Sew elastic band bands along the bottom of your hoodie and at the bottom of your sleeves. This will give your hoodie a snug fit around your waist and wrists. You can even sew elastic bands along the openings to your pockets too if desired.

Step 14: Now you will sew a zipper to the front of the hoodie so both front pieces will zip together when you zip it up.

Step 15: You should now have a hoodie that zips in the front without a hood...yet.

Step 16: Next you will measure the neck opening around the top of your hoodie and divide your measurement by ½. This measurement will be the bottom half of your hood.

Step 17: With the measurement of the bottom of your hood, cut the shape of your hood to your preference. This will be ½ of your hood. You repeat this step again to cut out the other half of your hood.

Step 18: Now sew the two halve together leaving the neck opening and front of the hood open. You will also sew in draw strings along the front of your hood at this time.

Step 19: Now sew the hood to your hoodie. You now have completed your basic hoodie.

You can add more features to your hoodie such as add a lining, or make it pull over by not adding the zipper and creating the front piece out of one piece instead of two. You can add emblems to your hoodie using embroidery techniques, or add other features to make your hoodie fit your style and personality.

It's very simple. Take an old hoodie, sweater, or v-neck and cut along the neckline. That's it. This sweater will shrug off of your shoulders a bit and be super cute! Hope this helps.

How can I make Desmond Miles's hoodie?

The simplest way to make the Desmond hoodie. Assassin's creed I'm guessing. Is to get a white hoodie and white cloth from walmart. Then, on the cloth, make a rounded triangle and sew it to the hood of the hoodie. As for the designs, just put it on there with paint or those silver sharpies. That's how I make mine anyway. Good Luck!
