1. Make your own pattern by using newspaper or pattern paper. Take your measurements and then transfer them to the paper. Once transferred, cut out the pattern. This approach can be quite tough, so a much simpler approach can be to visit a fabric store to find a pattern that is already created for you.
Once you have cut out your pattern, choose what type of fabric that you want to use for your track jacket. Most track jackets are made with a polyester/cotton blend, but you can choose to make yours out of any fabric you like.
2. Once you have either made or bought the pattern and fabric, lay out the fabric and press with a warm iron. It also helps to iron the pattern too. With the fabric facing up, pin the pattern to the fabric that you will use to make the track jacket. Carefully cut the pieces out, being careful not to cut past the designated lines on the pattern.
3. Match up the pieces according to where they will be attached. Pin on the opposite side to sew.
4. Begin sewing the pieces of the track jacket together inside out, so all of the seams will remain hidden when worn. After the track jacket is sewn together, you can attach any patches, beads or embellishments to customize it to suit your style.
5. Enjoy your new stylish track jacket when you are out exercising, walking the dog or anything else that you so desire. Tips If the pattern that you chose requires button holes, use the ‘button hole’ option on your sewing machine. Typically, zippers are used for comfort for the track jacket, but since this is your own personal design, feel free to create it to your liking.
