Many of today’s kitchens lack enough room to store necessary kitchen supplies and utensils. Apartments, condo’s, and smaller sized homes; all with sometimes scaled down mini-kitchens, require a great deal of organizing ingenuity to make them workable for meal preparation.
One key to such organization is purchasing multi-purpose kitchen supplies and utensils. Kitchen stores, local or online, offer hundreds of multi-purpose gadgets and appliances.
Some hints for organizing kitchen supplies and utensils include:
• Partition kitchen drawers for easy organizing of frequently used items.
• Keep kitchen supplies and utensils where they will be needed. For example; having a vegetable brush, or paring knife within reach when cleaning and preparing fresh vegetables at the sink saves steps and time.
• Keep baking supplies in one area of the kitchen or cupboards. Storing all the baking supplies and utensils together makes it easy to see if all the provisions a recipe requires are on hand.
• Home canners with limited kitchen space might store canning supplies in a different area during the canning off-season. Place such items as jar lifters, canning funnels, etc, in the large canner itself, and place everything on a top bedroom closet shelf.
• Invest in a kitchen carousel for oft-used items. A large carousel takes up about the same amount of counter space as a toaster and may hold 20, or more, items.
• Replace one-purpose small appliances with multi-purpose units. For example, replace an individual electric can opener, an electric ice crusher, and a jar opener with a handy appliance that performs all three functions. Look for a multi function toaster to replace both the old sandwich grill and the conventional toaster that have been taking up counter space.
• Look up when looking for extra storage for kitchen supplies and utensils. Kitchen cupboards whose height stops below the ceiling are ideal places to keep seldom used kitchen items. Colorful boxes from a kitchen or stationary store are a decorative way to store things on cupboard tops.
Kitchen stores provide a variety of cupboard organizers, and many decorative racks for hanging pots, pans, and other kitchen supplies and utensils.

There are many chain stores in the US that sell kitchen supplies and utensils, from warehouse stores to "big box" stores. Some common chain stores where the consumer can purchase items for their kitchen are Target, Costco, Wal-Mart, and Sam's Club. Of course, even grocery stores carry a limited line of kitchen supplies and kitchen utensils, so the choices are nearly endless.
