There are times when you need a vacation but you only have the weekend available. You can have an enjoyable weekend getaway if you plan it well and do not try to extend yourself too far over the two days you have.
Find a Local Attraction You’ve Never Visited
The United States is covered with museums, amusement parks, historical sites, and national parks. If you want to plan a weekend getaway, look at your state and the surrounding states on a map. Draw a circle that represents the furthest amount of driving that you are willing to do. The chances are very good that somewhere within that circle you will find something that you have never visited before. In fact, there will probably be more than one destination that looks interesting. Choose the one that is the most intriguing and begin to plan your weekend getaway focused on that destination.
Take a Long Drive
One of the best ways to make it feel like you have gone far away from home is to drive a long distance. Try to find something that is at least two hours away from your home town so that you will be able to get on the highway and drive for a while before you get there. Driving long distances can make it feel like you have truly embarked on an adventure that is fully removed from your every day life. Even if you are only going a few hundred miles, a driving vacation will feel like a complete escape.
Treat Yourself to a Hotel Room
When you can not leave town for a weekend getaway, it is possible to create a vacation within the city limits. Book a hotel room for yourself for Friday and Saturday nights. Try to find a hotel that has always looked interesting to you every time you drove by. Staying in a hotel in a different part of town will change all of the regular routines that you usually follow on the weekend. When you are in a hotel, there are people who will change your sheets for you and make the bed and make sure that you are comfortable all of the time.
There are a number of weekend getaway locations, particularly in the current struggling economy. If you are willing/ able to take a plan, the Caribbean/ Jamaica and the Bahamas are all easy stops.
