For some, Halloween is a chance to trick or treat all night long. Others prefer to spend the time at a festive Halloween party! No other occasion is such a great reason to spend time with friends, celebrating, enjoying candy, and being spooky. In many neighborhoods, it is safer to encourage children to stay at home for a fun Halloween party. Invite your neighbors around as well, and enjoy Halloween themed games and snacks. Here are just a few suggestions for throwing your own spooky Halloween party: Invitations: Make it clear on the invitations whether children should come dressed, and also speak to parents about if any costumes are off limits. When attending a party, speak to the hosts if you child plans to wear a particularly scary costume that may be problematic for very young kids. Invitations can be homemade, but decorate them with a distinct Halloween theme and stick to color schemes of green, purple, and black, or a candy corn theme of yellow and orange. Games: No party would be complete without at least one fun Halloween game! Try unwrapping the mummy's bandages, where several long bandage wraps envelop a themed prize. Pass the mummy's bandages around the circle in time to music, and whoever holds it when the music stops unwraps one layer. Another favorite is a version of pin the tail on the donkey, where instead you place the head of a skeleton on the rest of his bony body. Snacks: Start with a witch's brew made up any type of juice or punch. The secret is in the peeled grapes which should float around like eyeballs. Be sure that each serving has one or two floating around in the cup. Favorites treats to nibble on are vienna cocktail sausages "fingers" dipped in ketchup. Don't forget to include lots of tasty candy to snack on and bags to allow the guests to bring home extras as a party favor, especially if this will take the place of trick or treating for many people. By sending out festive invitations and including themes games, drinks and snacks, your children's Halloween party is guaranteed to be a spooky success!
