The homebrew channel is a channel that can only be added to the Nintendo Wii via a software or hardware modification. This channel is accessible from the Wii menu and allows the player to run several applications designed by independent programmers, ranging from emulators of NES, SNES, Genesis and Turbo-Grafx 16 to backup copy loaders such as Gecko and NeoGamma. The homebrew channel also allows access to the application Homebrew Browser, which provides a complete index of all available applications for download.
Using the homebrew browser to download new apps on the Wii
The homebrew browser is extremely easy to navigate, with a user friendly GUI that directs search and browse functions appropriately. Some of the most popular apps for download currently from the homebrew browser include:
What type of independent software is being developed for the Nintendo Wii?
Those players that are genuinely interested in the game and application development forum, as well as hardware and firmware concerns would do well to take a look at the WiiBrew community. The tools provided there are innumerable, and the Wikipedia style format allows for easy access to information with only light research.
The homebrew channel is truly a foundational tool for all of those Wii power-users looking to really stretch the limits of their hardware, and discover new ways to have fun with their consoles. Whether it's something as mundane as being able to play physical back-ups of games that may have been inadvertantly lost or damaged or induling in some deserved nostalgia with a round of Commander Keen from the C:\> prompt – there is a great deal of merit to installing the Wii homebrew channel.
Launches apps not made by Nintendo
The Homebrew Channel is an unofficial channel used to load homemade applications that people have written. It isn't illegal but Nintendo is no longer held responsible for damages to the wii console.
It isn't bad for you. but it will brick your Wii if Nintendo finds out you have it.
The Homebrew Channel is a Wii channel used to launch homebrew apps on your wii... basicly you get this then the homebrew browser then download wat u want... emulators... music... codes... i hav the hbc and its cool... people say its illegal but its not... so dont let tht get u.... its free and easy to use channel
No, if you uninstalled the Homebrew Channel and BootMii, there is very little that can help you if the Wii bricks due to a "full brick" from an update, etc. except for sending it in to Nintendo. Uninstalling the Homebrew Channel and BootMii will not brick your Wii, however.
You don't need to pay to get the Homebrew channel for Wii. Refer to wiihacks.com for Tutorials, guides, and files to get it (Sign-up required to use links).
No, you cannot, because the homebrew channel is not official software. It is freeware and thus cannot and will never be able to be bought through Nintendo because it is free. Also, be wary of the homebrew channel it can and sometimes will completely crash your Wii (equivalent to the blue screen of death for a computer).
Yes, you'll need wii version 4.2 and The Homebrew Channel installed on your wii though. (Cartidges won't work!)
Yes there are many homebrew games in the homebrew browser
No, the Homebrew Channel is free. If you did pay, you were scammed.
go to www.wiibrew.org i would just go online on the computer and download(onto sd card) and run "homebrew browser" on the wii
You shall have to get the file of (Homebrew Browser) first (On the SD Card). Then open The Homebrew Channel. Next you open Homebrew Browser and wait for the Wii to scan/check the files. After that you search the Homebrew Browser by looking over the categories. Then find Ocarina (but Gecko OS is more useful). Hint: Look for all of the 5 Star rated items. Then download them. They will be saved on the SD Card.
