These employees may work with difficult algorithms and cryptographs. The government has many other divisions of employment that require a background in mathematics, including defense, census bureau, social security and internal revenue.

Applied mathematics is a growing field that has several branches of employment. Many of these branches do not require an advanced degree, although some do require a Master’s degree in a certain field, after receiving a Bachelor’s degree in mathematics.
