Who was mo teeters of union citytn?
Howard "Mo" Teeters was a man that lived in Union City,
Tennessee. My memory is fuzzy on the year but he murdered his
niece, Amanda Rhodes. I was the same age as Amanda and if my memory
serves correct her murder occured in the fall of 1991, our sixth
grade year. Being so young, many details of her death were not
discussed in my presence but I remember talk about strangulation
and graphic ways to dispose of her body but I have no factual
evidence to back that up. Mo is a urban legend for this area to
this day because he escaped from the small, old jail that was
located at the top of our county courthouse. He shimmied (sp?) down
a thin drainage pipe that ran down the building and was a fugitive
from justice for about 2 weeks. There are many chilling aspects to
this tale because the funeral home where Amanda's body was being
prepared for burial is located directly across the street from the
courthouse and a window was reportedly broken open that night but
there is no evidence that Teeters was responsible for that. He
eventually turned himself in to the Obion County Sheriff's
department in a small country cemetery in Troy, Tennessee which is
also located in Obion County about 10 minutes from Union City.
Teeters was eventually convicted of the murder but remanded to a
psychiatric facility in Bolivar, Tennessee I believe. There he
stored his medication instead of taking it and eventually took it
all at one time, killing himself. This is a horrible story that is
still talked about today, 17 years later.
