If you are with someone and you think that they are having a heart attack, there are a few signs that you can look for before you take them to a hospital or call an ambulance.

When someone complains about their chest hurting, you need to monitor them. If the pain is on the left side or center of the chest, this could be an indication of a heart attack. The pain will be similar to pressure or squeezing in the chest area. There could also be pain in the left arm. This is a sharp pain that suddenly moves down the arm. The neck and back could also hurt before a heart attack occurs.

The person that you are with will probably be short of breath. Their breathing will become more labored as time goes by. If you see that the person is having trouble breathing and there is no cause that you can see, then you need to call an ambulance to have them transported to the hospital. The person may begin to sweat profusely. They could also become nauseated. There are different signs to look for in men and women. Men will usually be in more pain during a heart attack. Women normally do not show any signs of a heart attack until it is too late. One of the signs that women exhibit is shortness of breath. Some of the signs that are associated with a heart attack can also be signs of indigestion. This is why it is very important to monitor the person for a few hours after they begin complaining of any kind of pain. If the pain gets worse, then this means something is wrong.

As soon as you realize that something is going on with the person you are with, you need to call 911. The sooner that you can get the person to the hospital, the better their chances of survival will be.
