Kunming is definitely one of the most modern Chinese cities, with its wide roads that are lined with palm trees and giant modern sky-scrapers. What used to be small alleys and buildings made of wood are now shopping malls and apartment housing. Even with its modern feel, Kunming is a very laid-back city that is pleasant to visit for awhile.

The city sits at 1890-meters above sea level and has a milder climate than most other cities in China. Unlike other Chinese tourist spots, Kunming is appropriate to visit at any time of the year. Usually, travelers will just need to bring light clothing, but in the winter it is a good idea to bring a few sweatshirts. Snow is very rare in this region, but it has been known to fall occasionally.

Kunming is a great Chinese city to visit if you have the time. It is nice to see such a laid-back atmosphere in such a modern city.
