General Information:

Madison is the capital city of Wisconsin and is built on four lakes, Lake Monona, Lake Mendota, Lake Waubesa, and Lake Kegonsa, with a fifth lake, Lake Wingra within the city limits. The heart of the city is on an isthmus between Lakes Monona and Mendota.

With a population of just over 208,000, it is the fastest growing city in Wisconsin. It is second largest in the state behind Milwaukee. With only 17 murders in 5 years, Madison is also known as one of the safest cities in the country

History:

The city of Madison was named after President James Madison who had died in 1836, the same year that Wisconsin became a territory and was founded by a man named James Duane Doty. Later that year, the territorial legislature voted for Madison as its capital even though no ground was yet broken for the city. Just 13 years later, the University of Wisconsin was awarded to the city.

Camp Randall, which is now the location of the stadium for the University of Wisconsin, was once a camp for Union soldiers who were preparing for battle against the Confederates in the Civil War. It was also a military hospital and prison camp for captured Confederates.
