Ever feel dizzy or nauseous while riding in a car? Has it made you vomit, or break out into a sweat? Ever get sea sick? These are all symptoms of motion sickness, or kinetosis, and it is a pretty awful feeling.
The movement of a car, the movement of sea water, a plane that is bouncing around from turbulence, a roller coaster, or ride that spins in circles, can all trigger motion sickness. These movements basically affect our sense of balance, our equilibrium. For some people, just thinking about these motions will make them sick.
What actually happens to make a person feel so awful? Motion is sensed by the brain in three different ways. There are signals that come from the inner ear, which senses motion, the eyes, which see what is happening, and proprioceptors, deep tissues of the surfaces of the body, meaning you can feel it, but not see it. When these three paths send conflicting messages to the brain, the result is motion sickness. Many times the sickness will go away when the motion stops, but it has been known to last several days.
There are various treatments for motion sickness. If traveling by car, over the counter drugs, such as antihistamines, work well if taken about a half an hour before traveling. If taken when the symptoms occur, it may not work as well. Always consult a doctor for children under 12 years of age. A doctor can also prescribe medications to help. Scopolamine patches, which are placed behind the ear, have proven successful. Acupressure bracelets are drug-free, but have to be put over the pressure point for it to work. There is a natural oil that is applied behind the ear and the skin then absorbs it. An electronic band, which is worn on the wrist, sends out low-level pulses to calm the stomach. Staying away from certain foods, like greasy, spicy, and acidic foods can help.
The only way one will know what helps is to try any or all of these treatments. Everyone is different, therefore, different treatments will work for different people. If nothing does work, see a doctor.
Unless you live in a sterile environment, it is not likely you can keep yourself from sickness and fever.

If you get motion sickness from travelling, there are a few tips which I use to prevent it: (*all from personal experience...hope this helps!) 1. Don't stare out the windows, this is because when you're travelling, trees, fences and people flash before your eyes so quickly it confuses your eyes and then gives you that dreaded feeling. 2. Don't read or draw 3. Try to sleep. 4. Listen to music. 5. Keep a window or a fan handy. Enjoy your journey!
Motion sickness is a common problem for folks that like to live on the wild side of things- or simply enjoy a good carnival ride now and again. There are those that even get sick during car trips in particularly hilly areas where the roads literally go up and down like an amusement park ride.Motion sickness isn’t an inevitability though. It’s possible to curb the nausea associated with awkward motion encountered on rides, plane trips, and other forms of entertainment that cause people to experience this unpleasant side effect. To conquer motion sickness before it conquers you, follow these few simple rules:1.O.T.C. medication: There are now many brands and types of over-the-counter motion sickness medications; most of them work. Before going to a carnival or other activity that might cause motion sickness, be sure to take the motion sickness medication a reasonable amount of time beforehand so that it will be working by the time your motion moment comes along.2.Eye control: If you’ve forgotten to take any type of medication and you begin to experience motion sickness, close your eyes. This works particularly well on an amusement park ride. When nauseas at a height, gazing around rapidly can cause even more motion sickness.3.Breathe properly: Don’t breathe too fast. When nauseas or scared, many people breathe too fast and make themselves even more sick. Focus on breathing calmly. This can rapidly send motion sickness spiraling the other way.4.No talking: Try your best not to talk during the motion sickness episode. Talking invites the possibility of taking in air, a sure way to bring on the even more unpleasant side effect of motion sickness: Vomiting. Keep quiet until the episode passes.Motion sickness is incredibly unpleasant and all too common, but it won’t result in any permanent harm. To get rid of it, it’s best to stop it before it starts and always keep a good motion sickness medication on-hand to take care of any episodes that arise. Not everyone can anticipate when motion sickness might occur, but it’s always good to take a guess, especially when doing an activity you’ve never done before.
It is important to keep yourself clean to prevent sickness, but being over clean is proven to cause allergies and an increase in sickness, because your Immune System is too weak from not having to fight off invaders.
if you don't take care of yourself, many diseases will come to you.better you keep yourself clean and tidy. eat healthy foods such as vegetables, fruits, milkand meat.
Many people suffer from different forms of motion sickness. Most of them get sick while on a boat or a ship. The rolling to and fro motion upsets the equilibrium of the inner ear and causes nausea, vomiting, sweating and even dizziness. This feeling won’t go away until the motion is over. Unfortunately, on a ship, it may not be over until the person gets on dry land. There are also those who get motion sickness while simply riding in a car, bus or any other vehicle. The motion of a plane can also bring on sickness in some people. This motion sickness can spoil a vacation and can even keep people from taking a vacation. But there are ways to prevent this from happening. One very well-known and popular way are the medications for motion sickness. These can be purchased over the counter at any drug store and can be very effective in preventing the sickness. However, these medicines usually only work for short trips or for those who only suffer with a mild form of motion sickness. If a cruise, car or plane trip is coming up in the future, the physician can prescribe a stronger medication to avoid a more severe motion sickness. One of the medications is a patch. The medicine in the patch is scopolamine that is more effective in preventing motion sickness. This patch is a small disc that is applied to the area behind the ear. One disc will last for three days and then a new one is needed. However, this medicine can come with side effects. The most common side effect is drowsiness. Other side effects may include dry mouth, blurred vision and dilation of pupils. There are more natural ways to avoid motion sickness without using a medication. Before taking a trip it would be smart to avoid alcohol, heavy and spicy foods or anything that doesn’t agree with you. On a car trip sit in the front seat. If possible, get a seat in the center of an airplane. On a cruise, get a cabin near the middle of the ship in the lower level. Avoid reading while in motion. If a medication is needed, be sure to discuss any problems that may occur with your physician.
