If you are buying a used car, be careful of the new MPG ratings that are now in place. Since 2008, MPG ratings on cars seemed to have gone down. In reality, the old MPG ratings were based on driving conditions that were unrealistic for the way we now live. Cars that are 2008 models and newer did not lose any MPG, the new and more realistic standards were just put in place.
Personally, I average 27.5mpg combined (city/hwy). The original window sitcker MPG ratings were 22 city, 32 highway. In the new test standards, that would be 19 city, 29 highway.
The new Cadillac escalade gets 13 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway.
The new Buick Lacross has a MPG of 16 around town and 30 MPG highway driving. Be sure to also keep your Lacross well maintained to assure your great mileage.
The MPG on the new Chevrolet Aveos is 38-40 mpg per tank of gas. The car easily drive over 70mph and is considered to be one of the best cars available on the market.

The Honda Insight gets a whopping estimated 66 highway mpg and 60 city mpg, and the Toyota Prius gets 60 city mpg as well but only 51 highway mpg, and also the Honda Civic Hybrid gets 47 city mpg and 48 highway mpg.
The new 2011 Ford Fiesta gets about 41 mpg on average. 37 in the city and 44 on the highway.

The latest model of the Chevy Cobalt is the 2010. The sedan model gets 24 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway with a combined mpg of 27. This is decent to good efficiency for a car.
