Located in northern California with the Cascade foothills to the north, Redding enjoys a relatively moderate climate, having the distinction of sunny skies nearly 90% of the days. Just a few miles outside of Redding, Shasta State Historic Park houses the remaining buildings of Shasta City and stands as a reminder of the Gold Rush times in northern California. A little more than an hour’s drive to the east is Lassen Volcanic National Park at the southern tip of the Cascades Range. A short distance to the north, Mount Shasta towers over the landscape offering year-round outdoor activities. Shasta Caverns gives visitors a chance to do some hiking while exploring some spectacular limestone caves. Lake Shasta, located 10 miles to the north of the city, provides a multitude of water activities.
