Air Traffic Controllers have one of the most demanding jobs involved in the process of flying. Their jobs are one of the most important detrimental jobs that require them to be at the top of their game on a daily basis. If they make one mistake, it could cost the lives of hundreds of people on a flight. An Air Traffic Controllers assist the pilots in giving correct landing and flight directions during a flight. They are professional and highly trained in all aspects of a flight. They manage the air traffic controller system by helping to maintain air traffic flow that keeps planes from colliding in mid-air. They are responsible for maintaining the correct amount of distance between planes in the air, and on the ground. They consider all possible scenarios that go on during a flight, such as weather changes, flight delays, and directing traffic. They regulate the arrival and departures of each plane on the runway. They use visual and radar devices that help them to observe what is going on in the air. They can see other planes on the radar, and they can ensure that other planes do not collide with them. Every airplane must be monitored by an air traffic controller.

The education for an Air Traffic Controller will be a four year college degree, accompanied with at least three years of work experience. They must complete an approved Federal Aviation Administration education program, and receive a recommendation in order to meet the requirements by law. They must also pass a pre-employment test, a medical examination, and a drug test. They must also receive security clearance before they start the job. Once a person is selected to be an Air Traffic Controller, they will attend a Federal Aviation Academy located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to train for a period of twelve to thirteen weeks. Once their FAA training is complete, they will then be sent to a facility for on the job training, where they will receive a certification after training for two to four years.

Air Traffic Controllers earn about $42,000 a year after one year of training. After training, the pay can go up to $45,000 a year.
