You may run a Sports Memorabilia store and are interested in adding professional Wrestling items. You may even be interested in starting your own online pro-wrestling shop. However, you may not know a whole lot about pro-wrestling.
What we know as pro-wrestling originated as a kind of circus sideshow that simulated competition to entertain a crowd. Since then, pro-wrestling has evolved into a billion-dollar industry entertaining fans world wide.
Currently, the top dog in the industry is World Wrestling Entertainment or WWE for short. Formerly known as the WWF, they have plenty of merchandise available on the market. WWE’s biggest competitor is TNA, which stands for Total Nonstop Action. Recently, they have begun making inroads such as launching a Monday night program to compete against WWE’s flagship show, Monday Night Raw.
However, more dedicated wrestling fans are willing to spend money on other promotions. Japanese “Puroreso companies such as All Japan Wrestling and New Japan Wrestling are popular with some of the most devoted fans. The relatively small company, ROH or Ring of Honor, has released DVDs that have been best sellers at many pro-wrestling shops.
However, new wrestling merchandise shouldn’t be the only thing you’re looking to sell. Older WWF merchandise from the 1980’s and 1990’s and merchandise from former wrestling promotions such as WCW, NWA, ECW, and AWA hold a lot of nostalgia value for many of the biggest fans who now have the income to spend on expensive collectors’ items. Merchandise featuring past wrestling personalities like Mr. Perfect, Bret Hart, or the nWo is likely to fetch a good price.
Wrestling merchandise is varied, including DVDs, clothes, posters, toys, and videogames. Some of the most popular items with collectors though are Action Figures. Current WWE action figures by Mattel are good sellers, and certain mint in package WWF figures by LJN and Hasbro from the 80’s and 90’s have been known to go for hundreds of dollars.
There is a strong opportunity for retailers to make a lot of money off of wrestling merchandise, and you don’t really need to be an expert on this form of “sports entertainmentâ€ to reap the financial benefits of its popularity.
