Appliance Warranties

1. New household appliances (large and small), computers, televisions, and stereo systems generally come with a free service warranty or guarantee.
2. The terms of warranties vary, so ask the salesperson to explain the details of warranties available for your product. These details should help you to make an informed decision about buying an extended warranty.
3. While often sold at discounted price, factory refurbished items and discontinued appliances may have limited, or no warranty coverage.
4. Complete and return the product warranty registration card by mail or online; keep your receipt as additional proof of purchase of when you bought the item.

8. Call customer service, even if you don’t have a warranty. With information about the make and model of your appliance they can check to see if the item has been recalled for defects.
9. Ask customer service if the company pays for return postage on small items like blenders, telephones, and cameras.
10. Be prepared when you call customer service. Have available the make, model, serial number, purchase date, and receipt info to give the agent. This information is critical for determining what the next steps are for either replacing or repairing your broken appliance.
