Overview

Seoul is the capital of South Korea and it is one of the busiest cities in Asia as it is an important financial and cultural center of South Korea. Similar to other Asian commercial epicenters, Seoul is filled with skyscrapers and home to many corporation and businesses. However, it is also a good spot for a family vacation where both adults and children will enjoy themselves. Seoul has a very well developed subway system so visitors usually rely only on the underground train to get around. Most Koreans do not speak English well and it can be difficult without a basic Korean phrasebook.

Arts and Entertainment

Seoul is a city filled with attractions for people of all age groups. For adults who want to learn about the history of Seoul, they can visit the five palaces, including Gyeongbok-gung, Changdeok-gung, Deoksu-gung, Changgyeong-gung, and Gyeonghui-gung. All these palaces are on the subway line, and the Seoul History Museum is located next to Gyeonghui-gung on subway line 5. To learn more about the history and society of the South Korea capital, visit the National Museum of Korea and the Seodaemun Prison where prisoners were held and executed by the Japanese during World War II. The National War Memorial is also a museum that commemorates the Korean War and other military conflicts in history. Although these attractions are rich with history and culture, children will most probably find them boring. To satisfy the younger group of visitors, Seoul offers theme parks such as Lotte World, Everland, and Children’s Grand Park. While Lotte World is one of the world’s biggest indoor amusement park, Everland is equivalent to Disneyland. Children will also enjoy the mini zoo inside Everland which contains a lion-tiger hybrid. For art enthusiasts, they should visit the Sejong Center for Performing Arts, Seoul Art Center, the KBS Hall, and the LG Arts Center. The Sejong Center is particularly famous for containing the biggest pipe organ in East Asia.

Food and Drink

Visitors will have no difficulty at all finding a restaurant in Seoul. In addition to Korean cuisines, there are also many excellent Japanese restaurants in the city. The 24-hour Korean fast food stores and street stalls will for certain satisfy many hungry tourists. For a higher end dining experience, visit Jeonju Jungang Hoegwan and Everest for some decadent Korean and Indian Food. Another famous restaurant in Seoul in Zelen. It provides traditional and authentic Bulgarian cuisine that has charmed many diners.
