When birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas or other gift giving occasions roll around, consider making a gift rather than purchasing one. If you are especially talented in a particular area of the arts, you probably have already been doing this. However, those that don't have the 'art' gene, so to speak, can still create lovely gifts for much less cash. Consider baked goods or homemade jar mixtures. The dry ingredients of these mixtures are placed in a canning jar, one layer at a time. Then the recipe is written on a card and attached with a ribbon. Compile a gift basket that is unique to the particular person. For example, use a large clay pot for the gardener. Include, inside, gardening gloves, hand tools and seeds. Wrap it in clear cellophane, from the craft store, and tie it with a ribbon at the top.
