Sputum direct fluorescent antibody (DFA) is a test that looks for microorganisms in lung secretions.

Alternative Names

Direct immunofluorescence test; Direct fluorescent antibody - sputum

How the test is performed

You will produce a sputum sample from your lungs by coughing up mucus from deep inside your lungs. (The mucus is not the same as saliva or spit from the mouth.)

In the laboratory, antibodies that have been chemically linked to a fluorescent dye are added to the sample. These antibodies are considered "tagged." They will attach to specific antigens-- in this case, the microorganism against which they were formed. If the specific microorganism is present, a bright glow (fluorescence) can be seen in the sputum sample using a special microscope.

How to prepare for the test

If coughing does not produce sputum, a breathing treatment may be given before the test to trigger sputum production.

How the test will feel

There is no discomfort.

Why the test is performed

Your doctor may order this test if you have signs of certain lung infections or pneumonias.

Normal Values

Normally, there is no antigen-antibody reaction.

What abnormal results mean

Abnormal results may be due to an infection such as Legionnaire's disease, mycoplasma pneumonia , or chlamydia pneumonia.

What the risks are

There are no risks.

How long does it take for a rabies test back?

The time it takes to receive results from a rabies test can vary depending on the type of test being conducted and the laboratory's workload. Generally, the most common rabies test, the direct fluorescent antibody (DFA) test, can provide results within a few hours to a couple of days. However, more comprehensive tests, such as those performed on human samples, may take longer, often several days to a week. It's best to consult with the testing facility for specific timeframes.

What is the complement of a DFA and how does it relate to the original DFA?

The complement of a Deterministic Finite Automaton (DFA) is another DFA that accepts the opposite language of the original DFA. This means that the complement DFA accepts all strings that the original DFA does not accept, and vice versa. The complement DFA is created by swapping the accepting and non-accepting states of the original DFA.

How can I convert a DFA to a regular expression using a DFA to regular expression converter?

To convert a Deterministic Finite Automaton (DFA) to a regular expression using a DFA to regular expression converter, you can follow these steps: Input the DFA into the converter. The converter will analyze the transitions and states of the DFA. It will then generate a regular expression that represents the language accepted by the DFA. The regular expression will capture the patterns and rules of the DFA in a concise form. By using a DFA to regular expression converter, you can efficiently convert a DFA into a regular expression without having to manually derive it.

Point Roll is a third party. no, the main point roll won't serve thru DFA . The DFA will just run an image.

Can DFA simulate NFA?

Yes, a Deterministic Finite Automaton (DFA) can simulate a Non-deterministic Finite Automaton (NFA). This can be achieved by constructing an equivalent DFA for a given NFA using the subset construction method. In this method, each state of the DFA represents a set of states of the NFA, and transitions are defined based on the transitions of the NFA. By following this approach, a DFA can effectively simulate the behavior of an NFA.
