If you are preparing to go back to school and your goal is to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN,) then you may want to consider beginning with online courses before moving on to lab work, internships and other hands on training that is required in this intense but rewarding field of nursing. More and more nursing schools are allowing students to take the initial book based courses online before moving on in future semesters to the more intense and hands on, in class room type of course work. This is a great way to save money on gas, child care, parking and other expenses while launching your goal of getting through nursing school to become a licensed practical nurse.

There are actually colleges that do not have campuses but offer some of these basic courses at a lesser cost than many brick and mortar, campus based nursing schools can afford to allow. Before you enroll in an online college that deals with strictly online courses, be sure that your local nursing schools will accept transfer credits from that particular online school. This way, you will not be wasting money on a course that you will just have to take over when you get to your local school for nursing, anyway. Make sure that your journey is well planned and even try talking with a college counselor both at the local school for nursing as well as at the online school, in order to set up a plan whereby your online course credits will transfer over when you are ready for the hands on courses, lab work and internships.

Once you have found online courses that you need to take in order to complete this portion of your LPN schooling endeavor, you will need to be sure that your computer or lap top are compatible with the requirements necessary for that school's network. Be sure to read all material that is sent to you in preparation for your nursing courses. Keep in mind that initial nursing courses usually pertain to areas of math and science, so you will need paper for notes and perhaps other tools, as well.
