Make sure the room is large enough for you to move around in comfortably once the equipment has been loaded in. Today’s servers are extremely small and will fit in the same area that a desktop computer would fit in comfortably.

Make Sure the Server Room is Well Ventilated

Your server will need to stay at an even, cool temperature all of the time. Servers and their accessories tend to give off quite a bit of heat. It is important that the server room has a good vent from the air conditioner so that it can stay as cool as possible to keep the machines running smoothly. If the server overheats it could damage your network and your data. Some businesses keep large fans running in their server rooms to protect the servers from becoming too warm.

A Central Location is Easiest

The server will need to be wired to a network that travels to every workstation in the building. It is much easier to create that wired network if the server is as centrally located as possible. Remember that someone will need to run the wires through the walls, ceilings, or floors and into each workstation cubicle. If the server is kept at one end of the office, you will have to run the wires much further to reach the workstations that are located at the other end of the office. Locating the server in a central room makes the job of networking much easier for everyone who is involved in the initial setup.
