The client can make up a list of lawyers to shop for and set up interviews. If the lawyers all seem to have the same level of skill, the client should go with the one who feels the most compatible. Chances are they'll have to work with that lawyer for a long time.

During their first interview with a lawyer, the client should tell them the extent and value of their property, their monthly living expenses and their income. The client should be truthful.
