A defense attorney is a person who works to present the defendant's case in a court of law. They are responsible for trying to keep the person from being charged in a criminal investigation. They will present evidence and cross examine witnesses. They do all that they can to make sure that the witnesses look either to be unreliable or to be people who cannot know what happened when a crime was committed. The job of a defense attorney can be very hard, especially in cases with video or photographic evidence.

You can choose to go into a case without a defense attorney. If you feel like you would do a good job representing yourself, this is not against the rules of the court. It could make it very hard to win the case, however, especially if you do not have any official training as a lawyer; an experienced lawyer may be able to use his or her advanced knowledge to defeat you with ease.

Everyone in America is entitled by law to have a defense attorney. This is seen as a basic right. The idea in granting this right to everyone is to make sure that all trials are fair. People who have more money and can pay for a lawyer should not have the upper hand in a trial; this would be unfair to the side of society with less money. The law does not stipulate that everyone should have a lawyer who is equally experienced, however. The court will assign a defense attorney to a person who cannot afford it, but these attorney's are often young and inexperienced. Still, the fact that they are given to everyone keeps the justice system running in as fair of a manner as possible.

One of the hardest things for a defense attorney to do is to separate what they are allowed to do by law from what they feel they should do in a moral sense. They will be the only person in the room who knows if the person they are defending is guilty or not, save for the victim; even if a person is guilty, they need to tell the defense attorney this so that they can have a basic strategy to win. Knowing that the person is guilty, the defense is required to try as hard as they can to have the charges dropped or to get the person acquitted.

While the Defense Attorney is the one falsify the arguments given by the prosecuting attorney technically the defense attorney's job is harder because most prosecuting attorney don't file charges that aren't good and it is hard to defend against something that counts on witnesses and evidences.
