Crochet a Granny Square Blanket Part 7/16

In section 7/16 viewers learn how to add the final, outer row of the granny square. Hiding stragglers from the previous row is given special attention. This is particularly important if one wants to avoid separation from previous rounds and provides a neat appearance in the final product. This outer row is completed in the same color yarn as will be used to sew together all of the granny squares included in the final blanket.

Groupings

Each grouping of stitches is comprised of 3 double crochet stitches placed in the holes left in the row below. These groupings are connected with one chain stitch. The exception to this pattern is found in each corner. The corners contain 2 groupings, separated by the same single chain. This allows the crafter to make an even turn around the corner.

Final Corner

Upon reaching the final corner, complete the last normal grouping in the next to last gap. In the final gap, only crochet 2 double crochet stitches. Then, go to the 5 chain stitches where you attached the new color, count 2 chains back from the first group and attach the yarn with a slip stitch. Bind off with another slip stitch and cut the yarn, leaving a tail of 4-6 inches. Finally, weave in the tail.
