The Roux-en-Y is the most common gastric bypass procedure. This weight loss surgery procedure uses a band or staples to create a pouch at the top of the stomach. The smaller stomach is attached to a small section of intestines bypassing a much larger section of the intestines and the remainder of the stomach. Some discomfort can be expected after surgery; however, it is important to start walking the next day to prevent complications such as blood clots. A patient can expect to remain in the hospital for two to four days after this procedure.
