I removed the thermostat, removed the mechanism and put the framework back in. I know this not the best repair, but it works. I think I was getting an air pocket by the thermostat. Steam will not open a thermostat the thermostat has to be submerged in water. The car was taken to a Lincoln dealer several times. After spending several thousands dollars at the dealer mechanics and several independent repair shops I did my own repair by cannibalizing the thermostat. Since I did that repair the car never overheated again.This type of repair can cause hot and cold spots in the engine. We have put on ten thousand miles since my own repair.
