How to Choose Baby Names

If the last name is hyphenated or multiple syllables, parents may want to consider going with a shorter first or middle name to keep the full name from being such a mouthful. Another solution can be to give the baby a nickname. However, if both parents absolutely love a name and it is longer, they should go ahead and use their favorite name. Having a long name is not the worst that can happen to a child.

In recent years, parents have started using gender neutral names more often. These names may be appropriate for boys or girls. Parents may want to consider how well they will handle a situation if strangers assume that the child is the incorrect gender.

Most parents want to give their child a name that will serve the child well over the course of his entire life. In the end, it is the privilege of the expectant parents to name the baby whatever they choose. Even if many others find a name odd, parents can help their child have the confidence to be proud of his name and face the world with a smile.
