Don't Neglect the Filter:

One of the easiest ways to keep your pool clean is to ensure that your filter is in good working condition. Most filters will feature a pressure gauge. To know when your filter needs to be cleaned, look for the pressure gauge to show that the normal cleaning pressure has risen 8 to 10 pounds. Furthermore, if you have a pool vacuum, it's extremely important to make sure the filter is clean in order for the vacuum to achieve its maximum effect.

Skim The Surface Often:

Use a surface skimmer and try to skim the surface of your pool as often as possible. Leaves, bugs and other debris are much easier to remove when they are on the surface of the water. Once they sink, they can be a real pain to remove.

Use Your Vacuum:

Unless your pool features an automatic cleaner, it can be extremely important to vacuum your pool on a regular basis.

Scrub the Floors and Walls

Scum and algae may buildup on your pool's floors and walls. In order to keep your pool clean and looking fresh, it may be necessary to scrub the walls and floors on a regular basis. If your pool's walls and/or floor are made out of tile, cleaning should be a breeze. Simply use a scrub brush and mild detergent to remove any buildup.

One of the most important aspects of keeping your pool clean is to make sure that the chemical levels are balanced. If there's a chemical imbalance, your pool may turn funny colors. Furthermore, if you are lacking chlorine, your pool may develop funky creatures and/or bacteria.
