Sometimes a guy just has to look good. Whether you need a tux for a wedding, a formal event or a spectacular night out on the town, here are a few tips you can use to try to save a bit of money on tuxedo rentals.

Tuxedo shops aren't terribly unlike other shops. They will occasionally offer coupons and deals on their rentals. Keep your eye out in your local newspaper and call local rental shops to ask if they're offering any specials. You can also find tuxedo rental deals online.

If you're renting tuxedos as part of a group, tuxedo shops might be willing to give your group a discount. For wedding or other formal event purposes, the group might be able to get a flat rate off of their rental costs, or the shop might be willing to give someone a free tuxedo. It doesn't hurt to ask what the store's policy is for group rentals, so be sure to take the time to find out.

Also, tuxedos can come in a wide range of styles. Certain styles, including single-breasted tuxedos and tuxedos from non-designer names, can be significantly cheaper than their counterparts are. Don't feel pressured into choosing a tuxedo that's outside of your price range, and stand your ground if the store tries to upsell you on extras.

If you already have a pair of black dress shoes, wear them with your tuxedo. Being able to cross a shoe rental off of your tuxedo checklist will save you a bit of money.

Tuxedo rentals can be quite expensive. Have you ever thought about buying a tuxedo? In some cases, you can find and buy tuxedos for the same price that it would cost to rent one. If you find yourself needing a tuxedo frequently, it might be more cost-effective to go ahead and buy one. Just be sure that you will wear it enough to justify owning it, and try to be sure that it has a classic style. There's no shame in wearing an older tuxedo or suit, but you'll want to be sure it fits the style of the day.
