An Umbrella Insurance policy will provide protection of one million dollars or more of liability coverage above and beyond a homeowner's, renter's, auto, and/or boat policy and can be purchased from many of the same companies that provide the underlying policies. Insurance policies will pay out a set limit in the event that an insured is liable in an accident. When the underlying policy's limits are exhausted, an Umbrella Insurance policy will cover the remainder of the covered claim up to the limits of the policy. Umbrella Insurance policies cover a number of perils including but not limited to slander, libel, false imprisonment, injuries or damages resulting from an insured's pet, and injuries to a guest visiting insured's property.
