Most dry cleaning jobs are available to anyone who is willing to work hard and learn how to use the chemicals and machines that are necessary to the trade. There are a handful of schools and associations that provide actual courses in dry cleaning although these classes are not regulated by any standard and might not be relevant to certain businesses. There are really no nationally recognized certifications for dry cleaners. Most of the certifications that are available are for peripheral areas such as eco-friendly machinery or community achievements.

The bulk of dry cleaning jobs are in small establishments that are usually run by a family or a single person. There are also franchises throughout the country where dry cleaners can work on garments in the back. A selection of regional dry cleaning jobs can be found in large warehouse facilities in central locations. These are the locations where smaller stores send garments to be cleaned when they do not perform the task on the premises. These can be very demanding jobs that require hard work and assembly line efficiency in order to meet daily quotas.

The salary for most dry cleaning jobs is minimum wage. The positions rarely offer any type of medical benefits. The highest paid dry cleaners are those who buy into a franchise or open a new store independently. These individuals become business owners and can potentially generate a large amount of revenue each year if the dry cleaning business is successful and expands into other locations.
