Varieties of Airport Transportation

The term airport transportation generally refers to the way airport users/passengers get to and from the airport and from one part of the airport to another. Since airports are usually large places, there is a definite requirement for this kind of transportation. In addition, people are often in a hurry to make flights on time and thus need quick and reliable means of getting to, from, and around an airport. Finally, people arriving at various airports often do not have transportation of their own and so must find means to get around their destination cities, towns, or rural locations. The following are some types of airport transportation:

Municipal Buses

Municipal buses in cities and towns often make extensive stops at airports, often in several locations. They then may return to major nearby cities or towns. Buses then are one of the chief means of airport transportation. Passengers may use these buses to get to the airport cheaply, go from one location at the airport to another, or to go from the airport to a hotel.

Shuttles

Shuttles are similar to busses but generally are more "dedicated." That is, they only service airport related traffic rather than full area traffic as in the case of municipal busses. Shuttles often run from airports to nearby hotels or other stops and also extensively to various locations around the airport itself.

Rail Systems

Many airports have rail systems of various types. These may be special rail services that go to various locations around the airport or simply part of the city subway system/general railroad infrastructure in the area.

Taxis

For travelers with more money to spend on transportation and who may be in more of a hurry, there are taxi stands at airports, usually with plenty of taxis waiting to pick up customers. In addition, travelers can take taxis to the airport from any part of the city if they are in a hurry to make a flight or simply have enough extra money.

Limousines/Airport Travel Services

A stylish but higher cost way to travel to, from, and around airports is using limousine services or airport travel services. These services can be fairly expensive, but offer personalized service, customer auto parking, and convenient transportation even when on a pressing schedule.
