It is hard to give a definitive answer without more information. Where have the rolls been stored? Did you just receive them from a placed order? Vinyl wallcovering has a peculiar smell when you first open the roll but this will dissipate in a few days. If the roll has been stored in an uninsulated, damp area, then I suggest you wipe the surface with a damp sponge and check for any evidence of mildew or mold. If you have enough space to unroll, weight the corners and let air, the odor should disappear.
