A cover over the deck also provides much needed shade in the middle of the afternoon. The hot sun can cause people to avoid spending time outside. A covered deck encourages those outdoor meals and relaxing summer afternoons that are so desirable.

∙ 12y agoA deck without a patio is perfectly fine and there is nothing wrong with it. However, a deck with a patio really creates memorable family gatherings and moments. It is like and extra room (but outdoors) where you can spend special moments with your friends and families. Having a patio on a deck will also make that area of the house cooler because you can get shades or covers in the summer when it is hot.
