A paid internship is a kind of work related educational opportunity offered to individuals by different businesses in many different industries.

As part of an internship, an individual will work for an employer for an extended period of time. Since most interns are college students, the internships usually coincide with summer vacation or spring break. In a traditional internship, an intern is not paid at all. Instead, the intern’s supposed benefit is receiving work related experience.

However, working without pay is not exactly an attractive proposition to many. This is especially the case for students with less than adequate income situations in which they must work full-time jobs to pay for their college tuition and living expenses. Some large corporations have also been accused of using interns as a source of cheap unpaid labor similar to that of slaves or indentured servants. These interns are used only as a means to slash operating costs as opposed to actually providing those interns with legitimate career opportunities. These practices have come under some serious criticism.

To address these concerns, the idea of paid internships was introduced. In a paid internship, the intern will actually receive some kind of compensation. This compensation isn’t always monetary though. Many interns, for example, will only be compensated with basic necessities such as food and shelter. This is an attempt to provide for students who do need to work to provide themselves with such basic necessities.

However, often a paid internship will actually pay a monetary wage. This wage will not be comparable to that of a normal employee working for the company. The wage can be an hourly wage or a stipend of some kind. However, this wage will typically be based on the labor market the internship is occurring in. If the average living wage is twelve dollars an hour, for example, this may be the amount an intern will be paid during the course of his or her internship.

Due to this payment to interns, though, there is a lot of competition among applicants for paid internships. The volume of applicants will typically be very high, and the business may implement an exhaustive hiring process like they would for a regular employee. Despite these difficulties, paid internships that actually allow students to make a living wage are preferable for many to internships that only pay in experience.

Glimpse Your Future with Paid Internships?

Many college students, while studying for certain professions, will opt to look for paid internships or be required by their school of study to take an internship of some sort. Traditionally, internships are not of the paid variety, however, some are. While students are learning, they also have to support themselves, so what better way to do so than with a paid internship where they not only get paid for their work, but learn their craft and earn credit for their work at the same time. Paid internships are of varying intervals and can last anywhere from two or three months to a year or more, depending on the profession involved in studying. Professions such as teachers, medical students and those of the scientific community are known to use paid internships as a teaching tool so the students can gain the work experience and increase the knowledge they need to continue in the profession they have chosen. Additionally, to receive a license as a doctor or as a nurse, the students must participate in at least one paid internship and sometimes many more, as a requirement for licensure. Another version of a paid internship is known as a partially paid internship. This type of paid internship allows the student to participate in the internship in exchange for a contract that can not be obtained elsewhere, or the internship offers compensation for housing, food and other necessities, however the student makes much less than a normal paid internship would pay them. In addition to gaining the knowledge and experience students need to work in their profession, a paid internship also allows them to experience what it will be like to work in that given profession. This way, these students can get a glimpse into what their future would be like giving them time to change their studies, should they find the direction they are going in is not right for them.

How much does an intern at teen vogue earn?

There was a contest in 2007 offering a three weeks internship unpaid. But it didn't really sound like an internship, just more something where they show you an office or two and you probably do coffee runs. Who knows how much Lauren and Whitney are getting paid.

Is a paid internship a decent source of income?

Yes, there are, you just need to look in the right places. I am currently a high school student and I have an internship right now that doesn't pay, but the experience is well worth it. However, next semester I'm going to get an internship where I do get paid. It's nice if you get paid, but that shouldn't be the only thing you are looking for when searching for an internship, otherwise you may end up missing out on a good opportunity.

Do you have to complete any kind of internship for pilot?

Sort of. Pilots train and become qualified for each level of this skilled trade. The internship at the large passenger carriers is called being a co pilot. The idea of unpaid intern ship can be equated to a junior pilot training beginning pilots to gain experience but not getting paid.
