Wilmington is a coastal town located on the banks of the Cape Fear River in the southern region of North Carolina. Interstate 40 which runs all the way to California, ends in Wilmington on the East Coast. Its proximity to great, white sand beaches make it a popular tourist destination. It is extremely popular to residents of North and South Carolina.

Many visitors flock to Wilmington, North Carolina, throughout the year to enjoy a coastal beach vacation. Though the summertime is the peak season for beach vacations, Wilmington attracts people all year round due to the pleasant winter temperatures and all the other area activities available. Wilmington has resorts that offer golf, tennis, and spa vacations too.

Families, as well as singles, love Wilmington. Spring Break is popular for the younger crowd but you will find all age ranges in this beach town. Wilmington is lined with hotels, motels, resorts, inn’s, and private home rentals. It is the perfect destination for a family reunion as you can rent a house or condo that has 4 or more bedrooms and room for everyone. Kids love it because they love playing in the sand on the beach or jumping in any of the many pools that some properties offer.

Wilmington has plenty of restaurants and will surely to have one to fit your families tastes and your budget. From fast food to elegant dining, you can find it along the coast in Wilmington. Seafood restaurants are especially popular and you will have many to choose from.

For nightlife in Wilmington you can take in a local off broadway production. There are a few establishments that offer this type of venue. Two of them are The Opera House Theatre and the Red Barn Studio. Wilmington has its share of fairs and festivals too. There is an annual 3 day jazz festival and the Wilmington Exchange Festival for do it yourselfers. People come from all over to attend these each year.

Most of the economy is based in healthcare, education, and tourism. Wilmington went through a steady growth spurt in the 1990’s and was ranked 32nd in the nation in Forbes Magazine’s for Best Places for Business and Careers for 2010. There are many large employers in the area. Some of these are Walmart, New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wachovia, and the City of Wilmington. The hotel and restaurant industry also offer many service positions in Wilmington.
