Nurses do a little bit of everything in their line of work. One type of nurse who sees almost every type of person is a traveling nurse. If you are considering being a nurse and you like to be outdoors when you are working, this may be the perfect job for you.

In order to be a traveling nurse, you need to have your nursing degree. Community colleges offer nursing degrees that can be completed in two years. The basic classes will need to be completed first, and then you can start taking the classes that are focused on nursing. Some of the basic classes you will take are Biology, anatomy and psychology. You will do your training either in a hospital or nursing facility. When you have received your degree, you can apply to home health locations. These offices require that their nurses travel to the patient's home to provide care. Most of the jobs that you will do are during the day, but there are some patient's that require someone there at night.

The responsibilities of a traveling nurse are the same as a nurse who works in a hospital or nursing home. They will take the blood pressure of the patient and any other vital signs that are needed. If any dressings need to be changed, the nurse will do this before they do anything else. Some patients do not require much care, and the nurse will only need to sit with the patient to make sure their health is good and there have not been any major changes with their condition. If anything has changed, it needs to be noted in the chart for the patient. As a traveling nurse, you will have information on all the patients you see. This information is confidential and should not be shared with others. The starting salary depends on where you live, but most traveling nurses make about $20 an hour.
