In order to work in a social services job, you need to be able to take a lot of aggravation from people that you would deal with on a daily basis. When working in social services, you will meet people who have no job and are looking for a way to pay their bills to people who need a way to feed their families. You will also deal with people who lose their children due to the behaviors they exhibit. If you are a lead caseworker, then you may have to be the person who removes a child from their home.

Some jobs in the social services field are not as stressful as others. You can work in intake and process the applications that people fill out. You will need some type of degree to work in a social services department; a business or office degree is usually sufficient. In the social services office, there are different departments that you can work in. one of the most popular divisions is the food stamp section. As people lose their jobs and the pay that they receive decreases, there will be more applications to the food stamp program. The Medicaid department is another busy part of the social services environment. Health insurance costs are rising, and in turn, the number of people who depend on government assistance to pay for their medical bills is rising.

One misrepresentation that people who work in social services often receive is that they are baby takers. This is not the case. The people who work in the department protect the family and if that means placing a child with a foster family in order to help the family gain the child back, then that is what could happen. People who are emotional and do not like to see these events occur should not work in this field. The annual income of a social worker is in the low $30,000 range.
