EPOS is a system used in sales environment (stores, supermarkets etc) that is a combination of computer and till. Using a database application the "front end (the section normally seen by a customer ) can have product information entered by manual or bar-code entry, the application identifies the product and prices and adds to a "sale". On completion the sales in finalised and finance accepted. The stock sold is then automatically deducted from the outlets inventory. The "till" is connected to a "back office" server which accounts for the stock in and out of the business, finance in and out plus any non cash transactions. Back office systems can be contacted by head office or used independently to produce a product sale report that can thereafter inform a replenishment process (will order stock to replace)
