Actually, the only way for them to do that is if they have been awarded a judgment against you, if they don't have one than they shouldn't be freezing anything. If they do have a judgment on you and have file a writ to attach you accounts than it is only for the amount they were awarded in the judgment.

How many times and how often can a collection agency post an account to your credit report as a charge off?

A collection agency cannot charge-off an already charged-off account. The reporting of the STATUS of the account AS a charge-off can be reported every time they update with the credit bureaus. The 'date of status' must be the date of the ORIGINAL charge-off.

What businesses use debt collection companies?

There is no special rule that says why should businesses use collection agencies. One of the most essential activities of a business is dealing with the accounts payable and there is going to be other business or consumers that will not pay on time, for business accounts that are delinquent 60, 90, 120 or more days, represent a tremendous lost. When a business goes after their delinquent account (past due accounts) may represent an enormous effort and resources to collect that account, some times business have in-house collection department, some business mix in-house with a third party collection agency. When collecting business debt a commercial collection agency usually is needed. So, this is up to the business, if they want to collect themselves or via a third party collection agency

Can a creditor put an account into collections multiple times?

This will depend on where you live.Where I live the Creditor can put the debit into collections as many times as he likes as long as:It is being pursued by only one collection agency at a timeIt has not expired under the lawIt has not been "Satisfied" under the law. Bankruptcy is an example. So is a valid payment plan as long as the payments are made on time.

If a bill has been sent to collections is it better to pay the creditor the full amount or pay the collection agency?

AnswerOnce the account has been placed with a collection agency, it usually doesn't matter who you pay. Sometimes the bank will accept your $$, other times, they will refer you to the CA (agency). If the agency treated you in an abusive matter, then by all means report the behavior to the creditor and pay them dirrectly. A sympathetic ear in their office can get you a really good deal on settling. It matters, pay the creditor.

Can you settle for less in a collection agency?

Yes, sometimes a collection agency will let you settle for less than the total amount owed on the debt. Most times this means they will want all the money in one, two, or three large payments.

How do I remove a collection item on my credit report that was disputed but not removed?

Only the collection agency or the credit bureaus can remove a collection off a credit report. You can negotiate the removal of the collection off the credit report upon final payment of the debt owed. Some collection agencies have policies against this, some don't. You can also redispute it to the credit bureaus as many times as they will let you. It has a higher chance of being removed if it is paid off and an older account.

If the account was sent to a collection agency who is demanding full payment what can you do to get it back where you can make payments?

Unfortunately, what YOU want doesnt mean much to the lender. THEY want their money and they have LEGAL options to obtain that money if you have it. Remember when you wanted that car??? You agreed to certain things in the contract you signed. Maybe you didnt read them, but you agreed to them. You need to get ready to make CHANGES to how you handle this account. Good Luck. Contact your lender and arrange payments. Was your vehicle taken? Thanks for everyone's responses. To roosta: thanks for your message but next time if your going to leave a message maybe you should leave a useful answer to the question. Please don't waste your time with a nasty response. I did contact the lender (53rd bank) many times. They won't talk to me and refer me to an outside collection agency. Here, let me explain the situation in the past: the 53rd bank collections department (not this collection agency) always worked with me to arrange payments. They sometimes sent the account to the collection agency who would typically call for 2 weeks "and then" the account would go back to the 53rd bank collections department. The collection agency always demanded for full payment of what was "only owed at the time" to get all caught up. This time the Collector has the account for 2 and a half months and he is offering a price break if I pay in full. Has anyone gone through this? Anything I could do to get the account back to the bank? Thanks.

If your original creditor was removed from your credit report can you dispute the collection agencies still showing the debt and have them removed also?

No, the original crditor was removed because the account was sold to a third party collector. The entry will remain on the report for the required 7 years from the DLA. You can dispute the collection agency entries as well. Often times if you have paid the debt, the collection agency will no longer keep records, thus be unable to prove the debt when you dispute it. They more than likely won't even respond, as they got their money and don't care anymore.

How many times can a collection agency call in 1 day in bc?

A collection agency can (and will) call you every day if necessary. When a person owes someone else money, they are expected to pay for the services rendered. Nothing in life is ever free - we must all pay our bills and do whatever it takes, 2nd or 3rd jobs, doing away with the internet or cable television, drive less ... whatever it takes, the money must be paid to the collection agency or to whom it is due.Think of it as if someone owed you money ... you would also want to be paid and would call that person until you got paid. The question was not CAN a collection agency call, but how many times a day. If they speak to you, they are not allowed to call again that day. That is considered harrassment.
