No. You should use the W-2 that will be sent from the employer by the end of January. You cannot file a return until about then anyway....forms aren't ready...they won't act on it until they receive the employer filings...the year isn't over and a retuen must cover the entire year, etc. There are commonly several adjustments made at year end that may make what was on the check different than what is reported.

How do I know which federal income tax forms I need to fill out?

Everyone must file a 1099 based on the income reported on your w-2 income tax statement from your employer. You may have to file state income tax forms as well. Before filling out any forms, take a look at what tax forms you received. In general, you should have a W-2 from your employer as well as a 1099 form for interest income. Essentially, any income that you earned or received during the tax year will need to be reported on a 1040 form. If you are unsure of what to fill out, it is best to go to an accountant.

How long should you keep pay check stubs?

I used http://www.IncomeDocument.com to print pay check stubs w2 form and 1099 IRS income tax forms for year 2009! After you get your W2, check to make sure it all adds up, afterwards if it does then shred your paycheck stubs, if not demand the W2 fixed.
