At a minimum, you need to send either Form 1040, Form 1040A, or Form 1040EZ.

Everyone can use Form 1040. People with simpler returns have the option of using the other two forms instead.

Then you attach whatever schedules apply to the type of income you received. For example, if you received rental income, attach Schedule E. If you go through the line-by-line instructions for Form 1040, it will tell you which schedules need to be attached for each line.

Then you also attach a copy of each W-2 form you received from an employer. You also attached each Form 1099-R you received that showed income tax withheld.

Do you need to send copies of your w2s with your tax forms?

With your federal return, yes. With your state return, see the instructions. But if in doubt, you won't get into any trouble for doing it. But get your taxes filed or at least an extension today even if you can't find your W-2 forms. If you file without your W-2 forms, the IRS will send you a letter later asking you to send them in.

When sending minnesota state taxes does it require a copy of your federal taxes sent with them?

When filing Minnesota state taxes, you are not required to send a copy of your federal tax return with your state tax forms. However, you should include any necessary federal tax information, such as W-2s and 1099s, as part of your state filing. It's important to keep a copy of your federal return for your records, but it doesn't need to be mailed with your Minnesota state taxes. Always check the latest instructions from the Minnesota Department of Revenue for specific requirements.
