I don't know, you need to give more information. But some of the reasons can be:

  • your total taxable income is below a certain limit, but you still might want to file if you qualify for certain credits
  • in some cases where you owe no tax you don't have to file, but you still might want to file to get a refund if one is owed you
  • etc.

Just because you don't have to file does not mean that you shouldn't. It depends on your situation.I am on SSDI and do not have to file, but I still file as I have a large investment loss carryover deduction that I might need if I have a temporary unexpected increase in income.
