First of all, you need to decide what you want to spot. You could spot all general aircrafts or you could decide to spot a particular sort of aircraft such as planes, helicopters, hot air balloons, microlights, etc.

Then you need to gather the right equipment. You will need a logbook and pen/pencil, a camera and a pair of binoculars or a monocular.

You then need to decide where you are going to go. You could go to a field beside an RAF base, or maybe the side of an airport.

You will also need a friend to go with, otherwise you would get bored. Maybe your dog, or someone you know who has already been aircraft spotting before so they can give you some tips.

And last of all you need, motivation, determination and inspiration.
