How do you get an upgrade on delta?

There are a number of ways of getting an upgrade on Delta Airlines.

1) You can pay to upgrade.

2) If you buy a certain fare class, you can use Delta, Alaska or SkyTeam frequent flier miles to upgrade.

3) If you fly a minimum number of miles and reach Medallion status, you can get capacity available upgrades. These are usually only available domestically.

4) If you fly a minimum number of miles and reach Medallion status, you can get what are called OpUps on international flights. This would involve the airline over-selling the economy cabin and rather than bumping people off the flight, the airline would move up its Medallion customers.
